Albon not jealous of Verstappen: 'That doesn't make my day any more frustrating'

While Max Verstappen was able to grab pole position impressively, Alexander Albon could only manage fifth in Abu Dhabi. Red Bull Racing's driver was disappointed with a mistake in Q3.
Although Max Verstappen will start from the first row of the grid tomorrow, it will be a tough challenge for the Dutchman to take the win. The two Mercedes will start right behind him and he probably can't count on backup, as Albon will start from P5. Even though it looked like the gap with Verstappen was rather small today.
The British Thai is therefore not very satisfied with his qualifying. "It was okay. I was frustrated because my lap felt good. I was happy with myself today, certainly the most competitive I have been in qualifying so far. My second run in Q3 was just like my first run, I made a small mistake in the first corner. With these tyres and these cars... You consume the tyre too much on one section and you're chasing. It's frustrating," says the Red Bull driver to Ziggo Sport.
No resentment at Red Bull
Still, it doesn't bother Albon that the other side of the Red Bull Racing garage is celebrating. "No, it's not more frustrating because Max takes pole position. If you look at the gap between me and Max, it has probably been the best of the year. There are positive points. After my first attempt in Q3 I felt really good of course," the young driver concluded.
