AlphaTauri should have been above Ferrari in 2020, thinks head of engineering at AlphaTauri Jody Eggington. The Brit says the AT01 was good enough for sixth place.

Record number of points in only seventeen races

AlphaTauri had its best season in Formula 1 so far under its new name. The team won a Grand Prix for the first time since 2008 (then as Toro Rosso) and achieved a total of 107 points with Pierre Gasly and Daniil Kvyat as drivers. This is the first time the team has scored more than 100 points.

However, Eggington believes there was still more to come for Red Bull Racing's sister team. "At the end of the day we felt we should have been sixth in the championship. We think the car was good enough for it," he told Motorsport-Total.com.

Too many bad races

"But we didn't live up to it. There are many things we improved with, but unfortunately we didn't deliver the performance," the Brit is honest. Gasly in particular had an impressive season. The Frenchman scored 75 points and won his first Grand Prix in a crazy race at Monza.

Eggington is particularly disappointed with the team's failings in 2020. He cites the Imola race, for example, when Gasly crashed out with electronic problems after starting the race from P4.
