There has been a lot of talk about it in recent days: the engine freeze as of 2022. According to new F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali, it is a good move to take Formula 1 to a better level.

Engine freeze the right choice

Despite Formula 1 being all about improving technology, engine developments are frozen from 2022. According to Domenicali, however, it is not a step in the wrong direction. "The technological level of the power sources is great and unique in the world", he opens at Corriere Della Sera.

"We have to think about sustainability", the Italian continues. Especially with a financially tough year behind us, the engine freeze does not seem to be a bad thing for teams. Domenicali also sees the engine freeze as an opportunity for new manufacturers to enter the sport.

Not losing appeal

"We said to ourselves: let's save money on less important fronts to help new developments. In this way, teams can survive and other manufacturers can enter without losing attractiveness", concludes Domenicali.
