Horner anticipated signing Perez all season: 'We didn't have to rush'

Ahead of both the unveiling of Red Bull's new livery and the official start of the racing season, Christian Horner has reiterated his justification for bringing in Sergio Perez, explaining how he sees the Mexican's contribution to the team from March onwards.
"Sergio has a lot of experience. He can carry a car to the finish and stroke the tires," said Red Bull's team principal, speaking to Auto, Motor und Sport.
"He is a tough fighter. We hope that he brings more balance to the team, similarly like we once had it with Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo.”
Horner also knows that part of Perez's success is in the hands of Red Bull Racing's engineers. "Hopefully Sergio will get the chance to sit in a good car. It's up to us to make that available to him.”
On the radar for some time
"It was an unusual gift to have a driver like Sergio Perez on the market. We didn't have to rush to act, we could sound out the whole season and analyze our driver situation. All in all, it made the most sense for us to team Sergio with Max.”
