Wolff jokes: "We have 24 hours to really screw it up"
Mercedes completed the Friday double by topping both FP1 and FP2 ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix in Spain. Usually in 2021, the seven-time World Champions have had Red Bull Racing either ahead or right behind them. However, there's a slightly bigger gap in Barcelona.
Question marks
The second practice session was rather strange. On a push lap, Max Verstappen ran wide at turn 10 and then he aborted as a result. But despite this, Mercedes boss Toto Wolff believes his team have had their best Friday for some time.
"It was good. I think it was our best Friday so far so encouraging. We just discussed on the pit that we have 24 hours to really screw it up," Wolff told Sky Sports with a smile on his face.
Pre-season testing
Formula 1 have been coming to Barcelona for pre-season testing for a number of years, however, in 2021 Bahrain was used for pre-season testing. But of course, teams and drivers still have plenty of data.
Barcelona is one of the most representative tracks, with many of the pole sitters and race winners going on to win the World Championship in the same year. Wolff holds back on this point.
"I think we have the data from the previous year. Nevertheless, everybody says that Barcelona is always so representative as a track. The question is: Whether it still really is? There is plenty of tracks that have all the different kinds of corners and straights," Wolff added.
"This one is good and representative with the last sector is hard against the tyres, but the rest lets see."
