Hulkenberg targets 2022 return: 'Hopefully talks in near future'

Nico Hulkenberg was hoping for a permanent seat in Formula 1 this season, but the German ultimately did not receive a contract offer anywhere. He is therefore currently active as a reserve driver for Mercedes and Aston Martin, but his ambitions reach further than that. In 2022 Hulkenberg wants to return to the grid.
Hulkenberg is holding talks with his two current employers, but these are mainly about tasks directly related to his job such as simulator work. "Discussions about possibilities or options for the future will hopefully start in the near future. At the moment it's still pretty quiet on that front."
Hulkenberg enjoys being an analyst
At ServusTV, the 33-year-old driver let it be known that he is enjoying himself as an analyst at Austrian television in any case. "That's very good for me. It would be difficult for me to give that up," he said.
Hulkenberg missed out on a job with Red Bull Racing last summer. He was a good candidate to replace Alexander Albon, but Sergio Perez was chosen. The Mexican finished the 2020 season with a strong performance that earned him a one-year contract as Max Verstappen's teammate.
