It's only May 2021, but the 2022 Formula 1 grid is already largely filled. It's a result of the trend to hand out multi-year contracts more often, but luckily there's still plenty to speculate on for the Silly Season.

Multi-year deals in F1

Every year the rumours start about the line-up of different teams in Formula 1. Because teams often choose to hand out short contracts to drivers, the Silly Season can start all over again every year. In recent years, however, more and more longer contracts are being handed out, which means that many of the positions have already been filled.

Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc, Daniel Ricciardo, Mick Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel have all signed deals to stay with their teams in 2022. The same goes for Lando Norris, who announced on Wednesday that he has signed a multi-year deal with McLaren. However, there are still some spots empty on the F1 grid for 2021.
