Priestley on the flexible rear wing: "Mercedes will probably start to pull away"

The issue surrounding Red Bull Racing's flexi rear wing is anything but over. The FIA has already announced new, tougher tests for the component, but for Toto Wolff, that's not enough. He wants something done about it before Baku, otherwise, the team threatens to lodge a protest.
Former McLaren mechanic Marc Priestley thinks Red Bull's advantage may well come to an end when the new tests are introduced. According to him, Red Bull is faster in the slow corners, but Mercedes still has an advantage on the straights.
The flexing rear wing could partly compensate for this disadvantage at Red Bull. "That could result in Mercedes and Red Bull being very close, but after the new test is introduced for the French Grand Prix, Mercedes will probably start to pull away a bit," Priestley told a live broadcast on his YouTube channel.
Sergio Perez drove a strong race in Monaco, despite a poor qualifying session on Saturday. "Perez was lucky to gain a few places in the race, partly because of Red Bull's good strategy, but also partly because of Mercedes' problems. He has always done well in the race, but he still struggles to get everything out of the car in qualifying," said Priestley.
