Bottas expects to discuss contract soon
- GPblog.com
Valtteri Bottas is under contract with Mercedes until the end of this year and the question is whether the team will go for an extension or stay with it. However, the Finn is not yet busy with his contract. One of the reasons for this is that the championship has been quite demanding so far and working in peace is important. At the same time, the time to arrange this will come quickly, as it literally flies.
The right time will come
In the press conference Bottas says via a video link and is quoted by Motorsportweek.com: "We haven’t yet talked about anything, because this is being a pretty demanding championship and we know how much it matters to be able to work in peace, let’s say, when you can focus on the main thing, that is performance."
"But that time will come, for sure, it hasn’t been yet, but for sure time flies, especially as we’re soon going to go to triple headers. So I would imagine that, naturally, over the next month or so you need to start to speak and I know from previous experiences that the sooner you can sort things out, the better for everyone. It will come soon, but not yet."
Mental pressure
Bottas is having a difficult start to the season and what doesn't help is that he has crashed out twice over a five-race period. Bottas acknowledges that it wasn't easy, saying, "my mental strength has been tested. It’s all about how you bounce back from those and how you, move forward because you know the losers’ option, is to give up. And it’s not something I’m going to do."
"I’m still keeping very strong, strong mentally and knowing that it’s a long, long season ahead and for sure many good battles to come and, hopefully, many wins. I have full belief in myself and for us as a team that we still have time to do good things," continued the Finn.
"I definitely have some good years ahead of me. I feel like I'm getting better every year and I'm certainly not the oldest driver on the grid," Bottas said, blatantly not letting himself get off the hook.
