Championship about to ignite: "Verstappen is being hunted now"
- GPblog.com
Max Verstappen finally put an end to his love-hate relationship with the Monaco circuit by winning the Grand Prix. He also took over the lead in the championship from Lewis Hamilton.
Championship is about to ignite
It is the first time in his career that Verstappen is leading the championship and former Formula 1 driver Ralf Schumacher is therefore very curious how the Dutchman will handle that role in Baku. "Verstappen has already proven that he can keep his nerves in check," Schumacher told Sky Sports Germany.
"Verstappen now has to drive even more on the limit in the Red Bull, as the car is still slightly behind Mercedes'," Schumacher analysed the relations between the two teams. Schumacher, therefore, thinks that the championship is about to ignite. "The speed of Mercedes will force Verstappen to take risks," thinks the German.
Monaco misleading for proportions
Red Bull were clearly the better team in Monaco, but according to Schumacher that says nothing. "Monaco is a circuit that suits Red Bull well, that was already clear prior to the weekend. Now it's getting exciting. Verstappen is now being chased and we will see how he deals with that."
And it's not just Red Bull, Mercedes have to work as well. "The lead they had over Red Bull is now completely gone. However, there are now circuits coming up where Mercedes are clearly faster, but also at Mercedes they have to go to the limit." So we're in for some exciting races.
