The soap opera surrounding the flexible rear wing of Red Bull Racing continues unabated. Before the French Grand Prix new, stricter tests will be introduced to check the bending of the rear wing. The FIA will however already come up with a trick for testing during the upcoming race weekend in Baku.

Mercedes have already made it clear that they think the race weekend in France is too far away for the introduction of the new tests, claiming that Red Bull could benefit from the use of the flexible rear wing in the meantime. Toto Wolff, therefore, threatened to lodge a protest after the defeat in Monaco if the FIA did not take action in Baku.

FIA monitors flexible rear wings prior to new tests

Today the prayers of the German team seem to have been answered: the FIA has placed yellow stickers on the rear wings of every Formula 1 team, to measure the amount of flex in them. These stickers will be used as reference points when monitoring the different rear wings.

This would provide comparison material prior to the introduction of the new tests. The teams whose rear wings are found to be too flexible will have to make technical adjustments to the part before the French Grand Prix.
