Sebastian Vettel over the moon with podium: 'The restart worked brilliantly'
- Toby McLuskie
Sebastian Vettel claimed a maiden podium for Aston Martin with his second-place finish in the Azerbaijan Grand Prix today. It was only the German's second point finish for the British team and his season-best finish so far this year.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the race, Vettel exclaimed his happiness with the result in Baku today. "A great day, I'm over the moon. We were not expecting a podium here."
A day to remember for Aston Martin
Vettel had superb pace throughout the whole race and finishing outside of Q3 yesterday probably helped the four-time World Champion. He was able to make his way through the grid and found himself leading for a number of laps in the first half. He explained how much it means to stand on top of the podium once again, saying, "it means a great deal! Obviously, it's been a tough start for us but it's been a good race.
"We had good pace, that was the key. I had a good start and we made positions straight away and looked after my tyres when everyone went into the pits."
Strong off the restart
He finished the interview by explaining how important the restart was to his success, "I had a really good pace to overcut Yuki at least and then the restart worked brilliantly for me and gained another two positions there and we had fresher tyres warming up the tyres."
