Hamilton speechless: 'Don't know exactly what happened'

Lewis Hamilton had to deal with a heavy disappointment on Sunday. By the retirement of his competitor Max Verstappen he seemed to be back in the lead in the world championship, but nothing was further from the truth. The Englishman made a mistake at the restart and spoke to the press without any points.
Where the seven times world champion two weeks ago still blamed his team for his lesser performance, he could not deny that he himself had made a mistake. Hamilton was almost speechless in front of the camera. "I don't know exactly what happened," Hamilton told Ziggo Sport. "But I'm very sorry for the team."
Mercedes struggled to keep up with Red Bull Racing 's pace at the start of the race weekend, but with Hamilton still in the top three for long periods of time. "We did a good job of getting into the position we were in today. We have to regroup and try to be there again next time."
World championship after Azerbaijan GP
Verstappen's blowout and Hamilton's misjudgment means nothing has changed at the top of the world championship. The Red Bull driver is still on 105 points, while Hamilton has four points less. Sergio Pérez is in third place with 69 points after his victory in Azerbaijan.
