Sergio Pérez and Sebastian Vettel showed their qualities during the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Both men drove a strong race and filled the top two places. Pierre Gasly also left a good impression by taking bronze.
The AlphaTauri driver is often in the middle of the field, but in Baku things changed. With Max Verstappen's retirement and Lewis Hamilton's mistake, he moved up to the front of the grid. Gasly did not miss out on that opportunity. Although it could have ended differently, he told the press conference. "We had an engine issues so we were losing quite a lot of power down the straights," he said.
"Seb managed to pass us in the middle of the race and I knew these last two laps were going to be very difficult with Charles behind and you know I tried it, every braking. I wasn’t sure if I was going to stop the car but I had to go for it. I really wanted that podium and it really feels incredible after such a good weekend," Gasly added.
Good weekend for the AlphaTauri team
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda achieved a seventh finishing position and could also be satisfied. "Some very good points. I’m very happy. Yuki did a good race as well. All in all, a fantastic job and hopefully we can celebrate all together tonight," he added.
