Horner and Wolff battle continues: 'He's publicly burning down his team'
- GPblog.com
Christian Horner and Toto Woll are not burying the hatchet just yet. After Wolff openly stated that the performance of his team is unacceptable, Horner can't help but give the Austrian a little pat on the back.
Red Bull Racing and Mercedes are fighting for the world title this year, and that is reflected in the talks around the circuit. The tensions between Wolff and Horner are also rising, and both are not averse to teasing the other camp. This time it is Horner who speaks out after Sergio Perez's victory.
Horner vs Wolff
''Well, a lot has already been said about Toto's comments last weekend. But he is never afraid to burn down his own team and does so publicly. I'm not in favour of that, but of course, it's his right,'' the Red Bull Racing team boss says to Motorsport.com.
Red Bull was leading the championship with Perez's victory and Mercedes' zero score, but before Max Verstappen's retirement things looked even better. Red Bull was running 1 and 2, and the fastest lap was in Verstappen's hands. This would have given Red Bull a huge boost in the constructors' and drivers' championship.
Exciting F1 championship
''This championship is going in all directions. Max could have ended the weekend with ten or eleven points extra. If he had maintained the fastest lap, the gap would have been fifteen points. Then again, at one point it looked like we would be 21 points behind if Hamilton had been able to steal the win.''
In that respect, Horner is also enjoying this duel, as Hamilton and Verstappen continue to sit close together. ''Because both cars are so close to each other, it really goes in all directions. I think it will stay that way throughout the year and that's great for the sport. It also motivates everyone in the team enormously'', concludes Horner.
