Where Mercedes seemed to be comfortably in control again at the start of the 2021 racing season, the Monaco and Baku Grands Prix proved that the Silver Arrows have serious rivals this year, named Max Verstappen and Red Bull Racing. Nevertheless, team boss Toto Wolff still holds out hope of winning while using the intended strategy.

"We already adjusted the plans for 2022," Wolff begins in conversation with Autosport.com. "We can't get out of this anymore. And there's no way of making out of it. We will not change any decisions that we have taken, strategic decisions, just because we had two really bad race weekends."

The Austrian continued: "We knew that these two racetracks are probably the worst for us. And I hope I'm right with that assessment. ... I think as long as we have a big chance of winning this championship, we shouldn't let it go."

European races

The Mercedes team boss states that he wants to wait and see how the European Grands Prix go before he changes his team's course. He explains: "Let's see how the European races go now. But clearly these two were absolutely below the standards that we set ourselves and the expectations that we set ourselves."
