BREAKING: Russell gets Bottas' seat at Mercedes in 2022
- GPblog.com
George Russell will be a Mercedes driver from 2022. The Briton, who has impressed as a Williams driver for the past three years, has been given his chance to join Mercedes alongside Lewis Hamilton. This is at the expense of Valtteri Bottas.
Russell to Mercedes
George Russell has already managed to fill up a nice trophy cabinet in the starting classes. With a title in GP3 and Formula 2 Russell followed the traditional road to Formula 1. As a Mercedes talent he got the chance to drive in the highest class of motorsport, although it was with the worst team on the grid: Williams.
In the space of three years, however, Russell has developed into a major talent. The Briton is lightning fast over a single lap and, during his one-time stint at Mercedes, managed to drive in front of Bottas for a long time. The complete package has proved enough to get Bottas replaced at Mercedes, giving us an all-British lineup at Mercedes in 2022.
