Sainz: 'It's a great comeback. A positive for the team'
- Toby McLuskie
After an abysmal weekend in France last week, Carlos Sainz finished in sixth place and was overjoyed with his performance after the race.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the chequered flag was flown, the Spaniard was asked how he felt with his performance, to which he exclaimed, "Very happy. Very good day in the office. We managed to have a really strong first stint on the medium, overcut pretty much the whole midfield with good pace."
However, he went on to explain that it wasn't all easy throughout the race, adding that, "Then a really weird scenario, I was on fresh hards and had Lando ahead but also had Lewis ahead.
"I was doubting for 5 to 10 laps to follow him and catch Lando and then he was struggling with the tyres. When I overtook him, it was too late to catch Lando. We would have had a fight at the end."
Overall a strong performance for Ferrari
Sainz ended by explaining the positive's but also the queries to their success in qualifying and not the race.
"It is a great comeback. The car today, in terms of race pace for me, was on top of the midfield and as strong as Perez. A positive for the team. It's a shame we couldn't take the points from McLaren.
"Today, we didn't have problems with tyres as we did at Paul Ricard. It's weird, we are strong in the race and not qualifying."
