'Underdog Wolff' strikes again: 'Winning is against the odds for us'
Mercedes have dominated Formula 1 for seven years, but now face stiff competition. Red Bull Racing and Max Verstappen are leading the championship, and according to Toto Wolff, there is little chance of Mercedes taking a title this year.
After seven dominant years, Red Bull Racing are finally able to resist Mercedes in 2021. The last five races have been won by Red Bull, and that puts the pressure on Mercedes. Wolff is not worried though. He does enjoy this challenge, and shifts the favourites role to Red Bull.
Pressure on Red Bull
''I see ourselves in a life experiment which I can enjoy. After seven consecutive world titles, we are in a situation where we have an uphill battle. As things stand, winning for us is against the odds'', Toto Wolff told Motorsport.com.
''I strongly say enjoy is the right word, but it's a new challenge that will make us stronger in the long run. Every day is a new learning experience, even though we have so many consecutive weekends that are difficult. I think in many years we will look back and say this was necessary,'' the Mercedes team boss concluded.
