Tsunoda gets time: 'Therefore experience is so important'
AlphaTauri's performance this season has been mixed. Although Pierre Gasly is making a good impression, including a third place in Azerbaijan, Yuki Tsunoda needs more time to get the best out of himself. Franz Tost however is giving him the time to develop.
The Japanese driver received immediate praise for his qualities during his first race in Bahrain. Tsunoda finished ninth and earned his first two points. The next four races were then scoreless. "You cannot teach this young driver. He has to learn, and every qualifying session, what to do on this track. Therefore experience is so important," the team boss explained to Motorsport.com.
Relocation of Tsunoda
Tsunoda received a lot of criticism for his performance and decided something had to be done. The driver moved to Faenza to be closer to his team and get a better feel for his car. It turned out to have a good effect, as he scored another point at the Steiermark Grand Prix.
"I always say that a young driver needs three years to understand this complicated Formula 1, because Formula 1 has become much more complicated than it was years beforehand. I'm very happy with Yuki. He shows a fantastic natural speed, and he's improving day by day, session by session. I'm quite optimistic that we will see a very good second half of the season, and that Yuki will also be successful in the future."
