Cassidy grabs pole for E-prix in New York, Mortara misses out
The qualifying for the E-Prix of New York is over. The pole position is for Nick Cassidy, who was the fastest in the battle for the super pole with a time of 1:09.338. The Dutch drivers didn't quite manage to set fast times. Robin Frijns will start from eleventh place, while Nyck de Vries was eighteenth. Stoffel Vandoorne will start from 21st.
Group qualifying makes for surprising starting grid
The Formula E qualifying session is a group effort based on the championship standings. The top 6 drivers are the first on the track, which puts them at a significant disadvantage. On the other hand, those who are not in the best position have a chance to get a good starting position.
Frijns was the fastest of his group, which was also the first group to go on track. In the final ranking, this result was good for eleventh place. Nyck de Vries drove in the same group as Frijns and finished fourth and eighteenth in the final ranking.
Surprisingly, Frijns' title rival and championship leader Edoardo Mortara finished last, both in the first group and in the overall ranking. His team boss Susie Wolff explained that this was because he was unable to use all his energy in his qualifying lap.
