For Pirelli, the British Grand Prix will be a special weekend. Not only do they have to deal with the new format with an extra race, but they also bring a new tyre specification this weekend. A new type of rear tyre, which according to Mario Isola will come into its own at Silverstone.
"We are introducing a new construction of the rear tyre, following a successful test in Austria with positive feedback," explained Isola in the preview of Pirelli on the upcoming Grand Prix. "Silverstone remains one of the biggest challenges of the year for the tyres, due to all the fast corners. So maintaining the tyres will be important."
Pirelli looking forward to sprint race
Another challenge for the Italian tyre supplier is the new format that Formula 1 will test with this weekend. On Friday the teams will qualify, to run a short sprint race on Saturday."It will completely change the dynamics and rhythm of the weekend and, moreover, it is also going to have an impact on how the drivers are going to use their tyres."
"The different ways in which the teams will interpret these new changes and make the most of them will be fascinating to watch," concludes Isola.
