Horner: 'Russell has served his apprenticeship, Wolff should offer him that seat'

If there's one thing Formula One team bosses Christian Horner and Toto Wolff are good at this season it's exchanging sharp words and allegations. However, Horner showed at Silverstone this week that he is also versed in well-thought-out advice. He urges his rival to offer George Russell the second seat at Mercedes.
Asked, in conversation Sky Sports, about the rumours regarding interest in Russell from Red Bull, Horner replied as follows: "If George was on the open market I think there would be a lot of teams that would want to snatch him up, he’s a great young talent."
Horner continued: "But he is under contract to Mercedes and I’m sure they have a clear plan for him. ... If George was on the market it would be foolish not to look at it."
Recommendation from Red Bull
Horner concluded with a non-committal piece of advice to his colleague Wolff: "He’s served his apprenticeship and he is obviously ready for that next step. He needs that chance, he needs that opportunity. Toto should give him a go. There’s a strong dynamic between Lewis and George and it would be great for British motorsport."
