The accident in which former F1 driver Alex Zanardi was seriously injured has no culprit. The truck driver involved in Zanardi's handbike accident in June 2020 has been acquitted.

The driver was cleared of any wrongdoing for which he was initially found liable. Zanardi collided with this driver's truck on June 19, 2020, over a year ago. This left him with serious injuries. Since then, there has been little to no news regarding the Italian's situation, except that he is alive and well and undergoing rehabilitation.

Driver not guilty

So, for the time being, that is what the judge has concluded. This was revealed by an expert report that was made based on different perspectives. As a result of this report, the prosecutor asked to close the proceedings, something the court in Siena has now done. The 45-year-old driver has thus been acquitted.

Zanardi, after three operations, is now rehabilitating in a rehabilitation clinic near Como. The last update was from July 1 this year, when Zanardi's wife reported that the Italian is in 'stable condition and is doing exercises for his body and brain'.
