It took some doing, but at the last race in Silverstone it finally happened: Formula 1 organised a sprint race for the first time in its history. The opinions about the content of the sprint race were divided afterwards, varying from people who loved it to people who hoped that everything would stay the same as before.

Proudly

FIA Race Director Michael Masi, however, at Motorsport-total.com that he is not at all dissatisfied with how the sprint race went: "I think everyone should be proud of what we achieved. If you think about the original intention, which was that over the three days of the event there would be three race elements for the spectators, the public and the fans, I think it has its advantages."

"From the point of view of the FIA and Formula 1 as a family, I'm very proud of the way we got to this point. When I talk to friends around the world, they all say they liked it, that it was different. Of course, there have been changes in the sport before, but the structure of the weekend has been relatively stable for many years," Masi said.

Every race weekend?

Still, Masi doesn't think the format should be deployed every race weekend. "Do I see it having a place at every event? No. But yes, it is a different format and Formula 1 has openly said that we will look at other options at different events in the future."
