McLaren happy with postponement of new pit stop protocols: 'Logical decision'
- GPblog.com
The story is well known. The pit stop rule which is going to be changed is yet another change that will take place during the season. The opinions are divided about it and especially Red Bull, which had an advantage in this area compared to the rest of the field, was not so happy about it.
Yet the new rules have not yet been implemented. It was the intention that this would happen for the first time this coming weekend in Hungary, but after consultation with the teams, this will only happen in Belgium. So after the summer break. During the Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps, the new protocols will come into force.
McLaren happy with postponement
According to team principal Andreas Seidl it is wise that these protocols are introduced after the summer break. He says this in conversation with Autosport.com.
"Because of the particular situation we're in with COVID, it's not so easy at the moment to go back to the factories and train with the crew for the changes that were initially in the TD. So I think in the end it makes sense to postpone it, and use the longer break to give each team more time to be prepared for the change."
This way, given the summer break, the teams will have a few extra weeks to adapt to the new protocols and regulations. From Belgium onwards, these will be used for the first time during the race.
