Wolff responds to Red Bull's criticism over celebrations at Silverstone
The collision between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton at the British Grand Prix remains the talk of the town in Formula 1 ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix. Following the incident, Verstappen tweeted his disappointment over Hamilton's celebrations at Silverstone whilst his rival was in hospital. Toto Wolff responds to this.
Hamilton drove around the circuit whilst holding the Union Flag and waving to the crowd. There were plenty of fist bumps going on around the Mercedes garage celebrating the fact that they had won the British Grand Prix.
"[Regarding celebrations] I think you can only rely on the information that you have. The information we had at the time from Christian himself was that Max was unharmed. From another senior member of the Red Bull team which I asked, said that he was okay and was doing fine. We also asked the media on the way to the podium and everyone said he was fine," Wolff told Sky Sports.
Emotions running high
Emotions ran high from both teams. After all, they are both in the middle of a World Championship battle. "We won the British Grand Prix, after losing five races, it was Lewis' home Grand Prix, that's why the celebration was high," Wolff added.
"Again, it depends on what perspective you look at, if Verstappen is in hospital with precautionary checks, and he didn't feel well whilst you lost you can have that perception. It needs to be respected. It's motor racing. Motor racing is dangerous. This is why I think respect and cool heads need to prevail on track. This is a great championship and let's continue watching."
