Max Verstappen set a time that was good for third place in qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix. The Red Bull Racing driver set a faster time in Q2 than in the all-deciding session, but pole position would have been out of reach anyway. Verstappen doesn't sound too disappointed.

"It was clear that we were a bit behind all weekend, that was the case in qualifying too. It's obviously not what we want, but we're still in it from P3. We'll see what we can do," Verstappen said on the podium in conversation with Johnny Herbert.

Verstappen on softs

Verstappen drove a good time with the mediums in Q2, but he still decided to finish his second run on the softs and not abort. "It's going to be different, of course. We had a bit more grip on those tyres, so we'll see tomorrow. It's going to be very hot, so obviously our softs won't last as long as the mediums, but gives us a good opportunity at the start."

So was that advantage at the start the deciding factor in choosing softs over mediums? "No, my time would have been on the edge of the top-ten as well, as everyone was improving their times. So we decided to finish the lap," Verstappen said.
