Qualifying duels | Russell and Gasly on maximum score
- GPblog.com
Lewis Hamilton won the qualifying session for the Hungarian Grand Prix, consolidating his lead over Valtteri Bottas. Max Verstappen only qualified third, but still managed to beat teammate Sergio Perez.
It's starting to become a bit of a sore point for the experienced Mexican. Red Bull Racing have always said they brought him in for Sundays and that he doesn't need to beat Verstappen in qualifying, but only at Imola has Perez managed to qualify ahead of his Dutch teammate.
Two drivers with perfect scores
At Alpha Tauri and Williams respectively Pierre Gasly and George Russell retain the maximum score. Mick Schumacher saw Nikita Mazepin creep a little closer, but that was due to the fact that the young German's car could not be repaired in time after a crash in FP3.
Lando Norris, Charles Leclerc, Sebastian Vettel also pulled further away from their teammates. The season still has twelve qualifying sessions after the weekend in Budapest, so anything can still happen.
