World Championship: Hamilton dethrones Verstappen as championship leader
- GPblog.com
Max Verstappen lost his position at the top of the world championship after the Hungarian Grand Prix. Lewis Hamilton scored a podium finish which gave him fifteen points. Verstappen managed just one point and that means the seven-time world champion now has a six-point lead going into the summer break.
Strikingly, third, fourth, fifth and sixth all scored no points in the race at the Hungaroring. Carlos Sainz scored a great deal of points with his fourth place.
After the summer break there are twelve more Grands Prix to go, starting with the Belgian weekend at Spa-Francorchamps. What is certain is that Valtteri Bottas and Lance Stroll will both be penalised with a five place grid penalty.
