Fernando Alonso did prove in the last Formula 1 race before the summer break that it is possible to come back strong from a sabbatical, despite celebrating his 40th birthday in July.

His fine defense against the much stronger Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton was the talk of the town after the Hungarian Grand Prix. Not only did he help teammate Esteban Ocon to victory, but Max Verstappen's efforts were also curtailed by his rival's loss.

Alonso still wants to win

Despite his two-year absence, the Spaniard's desire to win is still abundant, and he still won't accept a loss lightly. "I'm not in a position now where I can be second," Alonso explained in an interview with Soymotor.com. "I'm not in a position where I can fight."

"If I was driving a Mercedes or Red Bull and the other team was winning, I would feel like a volcano. But when you're not in that position you have other challenges in your head, and other, more real goals each weekend. But the volcano is still there," the Alpine driver concluded.
