After a thrilling final race in Berlin, Nyck de Vries became world champion in Formula E on Sunday. The Dutchman had enough of an eighth-place to grab the title with seven points difference. After the race, he was overjoyed, but also critical.

Title rivals eliminated

At the start of the race, things went wrong for two of De Vries' main title rivals. Mitch Evans failed to get off the line and Edoardo Mortara popped on top of the stalled car. The race was halted, but the two main competitors were out of the race. After the restart, Jake Dennis also crashed, taking out another title rival.

The eighth place was therefore enough for De Vries to seize the title and the third place of teammate Stoffel Vandoorne also won the title for Mercedes.

Disappointed in driving standards colleagues

After the race, De Vries was obviously very happy and proud of what he and the team had achieved, but according to Motorsport.com he also had critical words for his colleagues in Formula E. "We drove an incredibly strong race, I'm proud of that," said the Dutchman. "But I'm very disappointed with the driving standards out there."

According to De Vries, many other drivers were unaware of the tough battle in the championship. "This is not how you drive with contenders for world championship. In the end it all turned out well. I am happy that we also managed to get the team championship and also to give everyone the reward they deserve."
