Fernando Alonso has extended his contract at Alpine. The Spaniard had a one-year deal with Alpine, although he quickly talked about 2022. Now both parties have decided to extend this cooperation.

In 2021, Fernando Alonso returned to Formula 1 after an absence of two seasons. The two-time world champion had made forays into IndyCar, the World Endurance Championship, and even the Dakar Rally, but longed to return to Formula 1. Alpine gave him the chance to return.

Alonso stays in F1

At Alpine, he returned to his old love, because Alpine is of course the former Renault with whom Alonso won his world titles in 2005 and 2006. The circle is complete, but it was a matter of seeing what level Alonso could reach after two years out of F1.

In the beginning, Alonso struggled a bit, but it is clear that Fernando's skills are not in short supply. The Spaniard showed great defensive skills in his duel with Lewis Hamilton in Hungary but also ran spectacular overtaking races in Azerbaijan and the sprint race at Silverstone. It is not surprising that Alpine wants to keep him on.
