The first Friday after the summer break seemed to be a trouble-free one for Max Verstappen. In the final phase of the second free practice, however, things went wrong and the Red Bull Racing driver lost control of his car, bringing the whole practice session to an early end. With Ziggo Sport the Dutchman looks back on Friday in Spa.

"It felt good all day. The car was well-balanced right from the first lap, which is nice when you get in like that, instead of having problems right away." Due to the rainfall throughout the day, there was quite little grip on the Belgian circuit, but that didn't cause any problems for Verstappen. "I only drove on the hard tyre, but we didn't have any problems with warming up the tyres."

Calm at Red Bull after Perez confirmation

That rainfall could also play a defining role for the rest of the weekend. A lot of rain is expected on Sunday and showers are also very likely to fall on the hillside circuit on Saturday. "It can work for or against you. With treacherous conditions, it's very difficult to assess."

There is calm at Verstappen's team, now also since Sergio Perez has extended his contract. As a result, Red Bull now knows for sure who will be in their car under the new regulations. "That's important for the team, to continue with the same two drivers. You know what you have and I get on well with Checo. The aim is to keep collecting more points," Verstappen concluded.
