The action group Extinction Rebellion has announced that they will take action during the Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort. It is not the first action group that opposes the race: Tuesday afternoon a verdict will be given in a case filed by Mobilisation for the Environment.

Action groups revolt against GP Zandvoort

The campaigners plan to cycle a 'Formula 0' race through Zandvoort, in a protest against the greenhouse gas emissions and damage to nature caused by the event. "The Formula 0 is about zero emissions, but also about preserving the dune area and zero impact on nature. At Formula 0, the 'big prize' is therefore not for a business prince, but for the dune animals and a safe future", quotes AD.nl the action group.

The group, known as the extreme left with radical ideas, calls the Grand Prix "the epitome of the unnecessary emissions, nature disruption and cronyism that threaten our future. Yet the government makes exception upon exception for this fossil party. Chartering half the NS, fighter planes, mass camping, nitrogen exceedances and trampled animals - at Formula 1 it can all happen."
