Mercedes denies trick with engine power: 'If only we had that'

At Zandvoort a new discussion has started between Red Bull Racing and Mercedes. This time it is about the engine of the German team. According to Red Bull the engine is suddenly much faster when accelerating. Since no improvements can be made to the engine this year Red Bull would like to have some clarity.
They have therefore asked the FIA to publish a new technical directive stating whether what Mercedes is doing is legal. "I only heard about that a few days ago", explains Toto Wolff to Motorsport.com. "If only we had a special trick, but we just do what we always do."
Red Bull wants clarity
While Mercedes claim that they are innocent, Red Bull strongly suspects that something is going on. That's why they are asking the FIA for clarity, after which Christian Horner expects it will also clarify for Honda what Mercedes exactly is doing.
"As always with 'technical directives', the ball is continuously played back and forth between the teams. It'usually a matter of confirming whether something is OK in the eyes of the FIA and if it is, then we'll deal with it ourselves", concludes Red Bull's team boss.
