Ferrari explain Leclerc's strange on-board radio
- GPblog.com
It was a special moment towards the end of the second free practice. Charles Leclec called out on the board radio that he was going to drive into the pit lane because of a problem he couldn't talk about. Now we know what was wrong.
In a statement Ferrari said: "Charles, we cut his session a few minutes short as he was feeling slightly unwell". Whether this will actually affect his participation in the sprint race is unclear.
Ferrari has no official reserve driver, but Antonio Giovinazzi seems the best candidate to replace Leclerc. Alfa Romeo will then have to look for a replacement, but Robert Kubica is already replacing Kimi Raikkonen there. Callum Ilott already made his debut for Alfa Romeo last year and the talent seems the most obvious option in this scenario.
Ferrari working hard
Teammate Carlos Sainz crashed into the wall and so Ferrari has a lot of work to do on his car. The damage is considerable. The Italian team doesn't want to say much about it: "We are working flat out, aiming to get Carlos’ car ready for Sprint Qualifying"
