Red Bull Racing did not have it easy at Monza. Only Sergio Perez crossed the finish line, and he was given a time penalty which meant he had to give up his podium position.
"It was a very eventful race and very unfortunate to miss out on the podium," Pérez said in his statement on the website of Honda Racing. "Regarding the penalty, we had hoped for a broader view, in the sense that it was my corner and I was in front of Charles. But it is what it is and we tried to recover."
Difficult race weekend for Red Bull at Monza
The small gaps between the drivers upfront made it impossible for the Mexican to make up for his time penalty. "We drove the best possible race as a team, but overtaking was impossible today and it was really difficult to stay ahead of the cars behind us," Pérez continued. "McLaren was really fast and hard to beat, they were very strong this weekend and especially on the straights they were hard to follow."
"They had very good traction, so at no point could I pose a threat to them. As a team this was not our track, so now we are moving on and looking forward to Russia. There is still a long way to go in this championship," said Pérez.
