Mercedes has a negative record. The team has only won one of the last ten Grands Prix. Something that hasn't happened to the German constructor in the V6 hybrid era.

Season is not going well for Mercedes

That the 2021 season is slower than, say, 2020 for Mercedes has been known for some time. But the fact that the team has won just one Grand Prix out of the last ten shows how difficult the team have found it, compared to previous years. The last victory for the Silver Arrows dates back to before the summer break. That was the British Grand Prix .

The last race that was won before the British Grand Prix was the race in Spain. Both races were won by Lewis Hamilton. In recent years no team has come as close to Mercedes as Red Bull Racing has in 2021. That team managed to win seven of the last ten Grands Prix.

Why Mercedes is no longer dominant

The main reason for Mercedes softening seems to have been the change to the floor. The cars with a higher 'rake' work much better with the modified floors. This has allowed Red Bull to gain a lot of ground and the Austrian team seems to have even overtaken Mercedes. However, Mercedes is still narrowly ahead in the Constructors' Championship, partly due to drivers Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas, who continue to score podiums on a regular basis.

Mercedes' dominance of the season finally seems to have come to an end, but the team is still in contention for the constructors' title. There are still eight Grands Prix to go in an exciting Formula 1 season and it looks like it will take until the final race in Abu Dhabi to find out who takes home the title.
