Max Verstappen drove a brilliant race from P20 to P2. The performance of the Dutchman is above expectations and the gap to Lewis Hamilton in the championship is only two points.

Unlike the previous race in Monza, Hamilton and Verstappen did not meet for a fight on track this race. For the Dutchman, there was already enough happening with the start from the back of the grid. "A lot of things happened, also on the first lap and even in the first stint. With other cars fighting each other you just have to stay out of trouble and stay clean and I think we managed that really well. And then the crucial call to go to the inters worked out", Verstappen says during the FIA press conference.

Tough battle in midfield

The Red Bull driver dit not have an easy race. "We all know how hard it is to pass and especially with the midfield being so competitive this year, it is really hard to get by and also that was shown again today. I of course got by quite a few but then, yeah, at one point you just get stuck. Today also was very hard on the tyres."

Verstappen is asked how he rates his chances of winning the title. "Fifty-fifty, yes or no." One thing is for sure, with about one third of the season to go and a small gap in the championship it will remain exciting until the end.
