US GP in danger? MotoGP riders call it too dangerous
- GPblog.com
The United States Grand Prix is scheduled to take place on October 24 this year. But there is still a chance that the race won't go ahead. This time not because of the coronavirus but because of the very bad condition of the asphalt in Texas.
Circuit not safe enough
This weekend's MotoGP race at the Circuit of the Americas has had riders complaining about the state of the tarmac ever since it arrived. Fabio Quartararo called it a 'joke', while Aleix Espargaro thinks it's unsafe to race at the track on Sunday.
Francesco Bagnaia who is fighting with Quartararo for the title even dares to say it was a worse situation than in Britain in 2018. That year the race was completely cancelled because it was not safe enough to race on the asphalt. But Bagnaia doesn't want to think about a cancellation: "No, will not be possible, I think. We are here, we have to race," he said. Motorsport.com.
MotoGP riders consult with safety committee
According to the Italian, you can't ride on the limit anymore at the Circuit of the Americas because you're already going over it every lap. The drivers will now meet with the safety committee to find a solution.
At the end of the month Formula 1 will also visit the Circuit of the Americas. It is still unclear if the bad tarmac of the track will have consequences for that race.
