There was a bit of a row over the radio between Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes. Toto Wolff agrees that the communication could have been better, but knows that there is still respect and trust from both sides. According to the team boss of the German racing team, these kind of situations are nothing new.

Strategist James Vowles wanted to bring the seven-time world champion in around lap 41, but Hamilton refused and stayed on the tarmac. Eventually, the British driver came in for a pit stop ten laps later. He returned to the track in fifth place and then angrily commented that they should have just stayed out.

Communication at Mercedes

"Of course we shouldn't communicate with Lewis like that, he's driving a car at 320 kilometres per hour. But it's fine, of course. We're on the same page, we've had this kind of situation for eight years. We have a thick skin to understand a frustrated driver and it's a situation he will understand afterwards," Wolff is quoted by Motorsport.com.

In the meantime Hamilton has also put his own house in order. On Monday morning he shared a message on Instagram in which he paid his respects. Wolff also wants to learn from what happened. "We just have to work on communication and make sure we trust each other, in the end we have to be able to make it clear to each other what we are doing," the 49-year-old Austrian concluded.
