Honda can be satisfied with the result of the Turkish Grand Prix. Yuki Tsunoda and Sergio Perez both managed to hold off Lewis Hamilton and in the end Red Bull racing got a double podium with Max Verstappen and Perez. According to Honda chief Toyoharu Tanabe the teams were able to get the best out of the weekend.

"Even though we lost, it was a day where we were able to get the best out of it. It was a double podium for us in very difficult conditions", Tanabe begins on AS-web. The top man admits that they did not expect rain during the race.

"There was a light drizzle and the track didn't improve until the end, but in the rainy FP3 on Saturday all four cars drove well. It was the second double podium of the season for Red Bull Honda. Unfortunately we didn't win, but we couldn't keep up with Mercedes' speed all weekend. In that respect, I think this was a race where we showed the maximum."

Important result for Honda

This weekend the Red Bull drivers drove a special Honda livery. Actually, this weekend would have seen the Japan Grand Prix, Honda's home race, but it was cancelled due to the corona situation.

"I think Mercedes were really strong this weekend and even [Lewis] Hamilton, who started eleventh, had a good chance to be on the podium. It was great to see Tsunoda hold him off for eight laps at the start, but then Hamilton moved up very quickly. It was a great race and the drivers and the team did a great job to control the race against the Mercedes. It was a very important result for us, even though we finished second", Tanabe finishes.
