Sergio Perez took the podium in Turkey for the first time since the French Grand Prix in June. The Mexican's performance at Red Bull Racing this season has been inconsistent, but Perez said Turkey was the turning point.

Perez a lot more competitive

"Yes, definitely," Perez replied when asked by Crash.net Whether the race in Istanbul he made a turnaround in his performance. "The whole weekend was a lot more competitive. In qualifying, we weren't able to show that because we were very aggressive with our strategy, so that put us at a disadvantage with the soft tyres in qualifying."

"I think we are just missing those few tenths that we had in hand," continued Max Verstappen's Mexican teammate. "We showed good pace all weekend and I'm sure we could have had a much better qualifying. So yes, I can definitely see myself coming together more with the car."

Unfortunate races

According to Perez, the disappointing results of the past few races also do not show Perez's true potential. "To be honest, the last few races have been very unfortunate. In Monza, I finished on the podium but had a penalty and in Russia, I also drove on the podium with three laps to go."

"It was coming for a few races already," Perez believes. Despite the podium finish, Perez did not feel entirely comfortable in the car in Turkey. Red Bull also lacked speed compared to Mercedes. "I feel like we maximized our result today and I'm sure if we can do that in the next six races, we can still win the championship". Red Bull are currently 36 points behind Mercedes.
