Valtteri Bottas believes that Mercedes will be able to keep up with Red Bull Racing in Mexico. According to the Finn, the problems of the previous editions have been solved.

Since the return of the Mexican Grand Prix in 2014, five Grands Prix have been held. Max Verstappen won two in a row in 2017 and 2018, but the other three editions were won by Mercedes. Still, Red Bull is always labelled as the favourite for this GP, as the thin air is to the disadvantage of the Mercedes powerplant.

Mercedes has learned lesson

Because the circuit is located at 2286 metres the air is very thin and this has caused the Mercedes engine to not work properly in the past. This problem should be solved by 2021, Bottas said in conversation with Motorsport.com. ''I think we have improved a lot by optimizing the power source, in that respect, we should be better than the previous seasons.''

Nevertheless, Red Bull is still the favourite in the eyes of Mercedes. ''On paper, I do think Red Bull are strong here, we have put all the lessons from the last few years into practice to be well prepared. These are not easy weekends, but that's never the case", concludes the number three of the world championship.
