Sky Sports still believes that the world championship can go either way after the Mexican GP, despite Max Verstappen's lead of 19 points over Lewis Hamilton. Mercedes will have to work hard according to the analysts of the British television channel, because Sergio Perez seems to be getting into his rhythm.

"Today, Max did his own race. A great performance from him and Red Bull. But Lewis and Mercedes still finished second," said Button. According to the 2009 world champion, the German team did fine damage limitation on Sunday at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriquez.

Mercedes with their two W12's were good for a front row start in Mexico, but in the race, they soon lost grip after a lightning start by Verstappen. Still, Button doesn't rule out a Mercedes comeback. "It wasn't a horrific weekend, obviously the performance wasn't there but it can still switch around. It's definitely not over and this team will come back strongly."

Sergio Perez seems to be coming into form just in time for the closing stages of the 2021 season. The Mexican is coming into better shape and Red Bull can put that to good use, for both Max Verstappen's and the constructors' world championship. "Mercedes have actually got another problem. Checo is on form. Instead of racing Max, Lewis is giving everything he's got to stay ahead of Perez," Damon Hill analysed.
