The dominant victory of Max Verstappen in Mexico has left a big impression on many people. Also with Sir Jackie Stewart and David Coulthard, who both have an impressive career as a Formula 1 driver behind them.

"What a brilliant thing that was," says three-time world champion Sir Jackie Stewart, quoted by NOS. "A very daring manoeuvre, because the speed is very high in that spot, the tanks are still full, the tyres and the brakes are cold. You never know exactly how the car is going to react when you're anchoring so late."

He continued: "Max's win is a world-class achievement. He was dominant throughout the race and seemed to be the fastest in every corner." Stewart hopes the title fight will not be decided until Abu Dhabi, but does have a clear preference when that time comes. "Formula 1 is due for a new champion," the Scot concludes.

Verstappen praised for championship worthy overtaking manoeuvre

Fellow countryman David Coulthard, who has won 13 Formula 1 races, is also impressed. "Verstappens start was rock solid," the former McLaren and RedBull Racing driver began. "It's incredible that Max knows he can brake so late in that spot. He decided the race there straight away. Really an amazing manoeuvre, what a boldness and determination."

"It was quite risky, but he was on the left-hand side next to Bottas and Hamilton," continued the 50-year-old Scot. "That's the line you normally dive into the corner too. The drivers on the inside always have to hit the brakes sooner, Max obviously knew that. He was in the right place. It was definitely one of the moves of the year, worthy of a world champion. Amazing."
