After years on the sideline father, Jos Verstappen recently announced that he will get back behind the wheel. First, Verstappen senior will participate in a rally in Assen, to drive the 24 Hours of Dubai early next year. Max is again dreaming about racing with his father.

In a few years' time

To Motorsport.com Max Verstappen told in Mexico that participating in the 24 Hours of Le Mans with Jos is still a wish. “Yeah, we do talk about it a little bit,” Verstappen said. “Hypercar is now coming along, but it still needs a few more entries to be fully established. I think it takes a few more years to really get a bit more of a proper picture of what I want to do possibly in Le Mans. It’s something I definitely would like to do in the future. Of course, it would be great if I could do that together with my dad.”

The Hypercar class debuted at Le Mans this year, with Toyota and Glickenhaus making their appearance in custom-built cars. A rapid expansion of the number of manufacturers is expected in the coming seasons. Peugeot, for example, will be at the start line in 2022, while Ferrari has a program planned for 2023. Audi, BMW, Porsche, Acura and Cadillac will also join the class then.

Obvious

For a long time, it was obvious that Max Verstappen would be doing Le Mans in an Aston Martin, as Red Bull had ties with the British company. Meanwhile, the British manufacturer is in the hands of Lawrence Stroll's consortium and Aston Martin might be less obvious.
