For Lewis Hamilton , his pole position in Qatar is the second time he has been fastest in qualifying in a row. In Brazil he was disqualified after a mistake in his rear wing, but now he can fully enjoy his pole position. He told Sky Sports that he was relieved to have gained pole position.
"It's been really hard with this car. Probably one of the hardest cars to get in the sweet spot also with the tyres but collectively we have done a good job extracting more from the car in the last couple of races. My laps were really clean with no mistakes."
Hamilton eventually took pole position by a large margin, as the gap to Max Verstappen was almost half a second.
"I've talked about it with my team and I feel 100 per cent comfortable with where we are now. We've done a good job this whole weekend and it's nice that we're back at the front now and hopefully we can start there and that it's not going to be like last weekend, because starting from behind is really not fun."
After several setbacks, Hamilton is really pleased with the work of his team and has no concerns over possible penalties like the one they faced last week.
"I have spoken to my team and I have been made to feel 100% comfortable with where we are. We have done great job this weekend to be at the front and I hope that we can start there tomorrow unlike the last race. I don't really have a concern."
