WATCH LIVE | F1 2021 Silverstone Celebrity race off!

13 July 2021 at 19:25

To mark the launch of the new Formula 1 game, Codemasters & EA SPORTS are hosting the F1 2021 Celebrity Silverstone Race Off. The Celebrity Race Off will see x20 famous names take to the track on F1 2021 in a bid to claim the top spot. Participants include footballers Erik Lamela, Ben Godfrey, Mason Holgate and Davinson Sanchez. More streamers, celebrities and athletes will be taking part.

The format consists of 3 races, with 2 qualifiers and a final (made-up of top 5 performers across the first two races). The game will be launching on Friday, July 16, 2021. It will feature a brand-new story mode, a two-player career mode and new circuits. This is the first official edition to be published by EA Sports.

Premier League stars Brandon Williams, Andros Townsend, Ben Godfrey and Mason Holgate will all be competing, alongside British rally driver Catie Munnings. From the streaming world, Jamie Bateson, Dickens Ngoma (AKA DurkChocolate) and PieFace will also take to the track.

Braking point

Braking Point is the brand-new story mode where players will take on an “epic journey” from Formula 2 and rising through the ranks to the big stage in Formula 1. It will also offer a taste of the lifestyle on and off the track. Character Devon Butler will make his return in Braking Point.

Just like ‘The Journey’, Braking Point engages with behind-the-scenes action of being an F1 driver and provides a storyline, rather than simply getting into the car and racing.

Battling with rival Devon Butler and teammate Casper Akkerman, Jackson finds himself negotiating the highs and lows of F1 racing, and it’s your job to smooth things over as best possible with great on-track results. It adds personality to the game, and the drama that ensues perfectly mirrors the actual events that happen around the F1 paddock. Whilst the career modes are excellent, Braking Point makes the game even more realistic, and hence is exactly what it needed.

It may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it’s certainly a bonus to what has previously been available in F1 games.

One slight frustration is the lack of a Drivers’ Championship standing in the mode; instead you simply complete objectives race to race, but on the whole, the mode is exciting and brings an added element that will keep fans entertained.

F1 2021 expands its iconic Career mode with a new two-player option that allows friends to join online and play co-operatively or choose different teams and take rivalries to the track in synchronous race sessions. Career mode also introduces Real-Season Start, enabling players to begin at any point in the season with real-time driver and constructor standings.

EA have done an excellent job. The game runs smoothly with no delay, and the graphics are excellent. The on-track action is realistic, and the new game modes add personality to a sport that has been growing commercially for several years.
